“Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself; but talent instantly recognizes genius.”
― Arthur Conan Doyle
Supergirl: Hostile Takeover
The show isn’t very good.
I watch it because I want it to be good. There are not too many shows to invest in.
The talent in the industry is watered down. It is like the NFL after the expansion, teams are struggling to find a single competent quarterback.
I saw a commercial for Infinity. It was bragging that if I bought their package on all the shows that I could see. As the images flashed on the screen, I had to laugh. The comedies are not funny and the dramas are just a soundtrack.
Let us pretend that it is 1950. In that year, 2000 books are published (let’s pretend). Of those books, maybe 5 are very good. 10 are good. 20 are worth re-reading. The rest are doorstops.
Let us pretend that it is 2015. In this year, 50,000 books are published (let’s pretend). Of those books, maybe 5 are very good. 10 are good. 20 are worth re-reading. The rest are doorstops.
The volume has increased in books, movies, television shows, music, art, poetry, dance and so on. But the talent remains the same.
People are turning off their cable, this is not news. They are turning to the internet and the work isn’t any better, just cheaper.
We need good writers. We need people who know craft. There IS hope, of course. These fledgling artists who are trying to make work (and are getting paid in the field!) might someday get better.
In twenty years, give Supergirl yet another chance.
