Howl Bomb Nerfed in 7.0
The damage bonus from Howl now only affects one attack.
Pandaren Water Spirit’s Whirlpool and Geyser now share the same ability slot. Dev note: This is our first iteration at disarming the Howl Bomb strategy in PvE, which has proven to be very powerful in too many situations. The goal is to make PvE battles more interesting and encourage the use of a wide variety of pets.
The Howl Bomb was my “go to” pet battle set-up for just about everything. The battles in Tanaan and for the Beasts of Fable, 97% of the time it was 100% perfect.
The Howl Bomb is: Geyser, Whirlpool (swap pets) Howl, Surge of Power with Chrominius. As you can see, it is a five-click battle. Done and done.
I’m fine with it. Players went through thousands of pet combinations to find one strong combination and it will be nerfed. That is the problem with pet battling, there are thousands of pet combinations.
With, currently, 600 unique pets at 3 spells per pet (6 possible) and 10 pet families; the volume of combinations is staggering and over-whelming.
Something needs to be done.
Let me brain-storm some:
- A cheat sheet inside of the UI (mechanicals are strong against critters) so that when you are facing a team, you can at least guess.
- A way to save successful teams and to label them (replace an addon, please).
- Direct links in the pane to Wowhead for Tamers (replace another addon, please).
- Spell sorting in the UI for weather, stuns, cleaves, shells, heals.
- Stack pet bandages to 2000.
I’m fairly invested in Pet Battling. I’ve used it for XP a lot. The mini-game is too complex for new encounters, I go straight to Wowhead. I hated the Celestial Tournament; I did it, but it was laborious and frustratingly not fun.
Nerfing the Howl Bomb is fine but they have to “up their game” so we don’t feel the desire to have a single over-powered combination. If you take something away, I want something better in return!
