Patch 7.1.5 – Secondary Stats

MMO Champs has posted the blue posts today about Secondary Stat Changes.

The problem has been ongoing, players are skipping ilevel upgrades in favor of secondary stats. I know a warrior who won’t equip because Haste is so important to his spec that an upgrade would be a downgrade.

The ideal is that you get an ilevel upgrade and you “equip and forget”.


The day before today, MMO Champs posted:
Patch 7.1.5 PTR – Secondary Stat Changes
In the latest PTR build, the amount of rating you need per 1% of Critical Strike, Haste, Mastery, and Versatility was changed.

  • Critical Strike – Now requires 400 rating per 1% Critical Strike, up from 350.
  • Haste – Now requires 375 rating per 1% Haste, up from 325.
  • Mastery – Now requires 400 rating per 1 Mastery, up from 350.
  • Versatility – Now requires 475 rating per 1% damage and healing increase, up from 400. Now requires 950 rating per 1% damage taken reduction, up from 800.

They will get close, I’m sure of that, to solving the problem. High on their list are the rings and necks which are pure secondary stat pieces. Their design has betrayed them, clearly! Many legendary pieces are rings and necks and players are not using them due to bad secondary stats — how embarrassing!

Personally, I think that it is way too early in an expansion and gear is still flowing for players to be trying for breakpoints and diminishing returns on their secondary stats. Still, it is a big problem to be solved (and followed by us) in the next patch.

My solution would be simple: add more sockets so players can stuff themselves with the secondary stat that they need. Jack up the gems if necessary. Lower the breakpoints or shelves or whatever you want to call it so that you can max your main secondary and trickle down to the next. Or make the goal so far out of reach that it is not a desired goal.

I should not have a 870 piece, hard-earned, in my bag and have an 850 piece equipped due to the secondary stats on that piece being ideal for my spec.

  1. I’m going to get my cane and get off the front stoop if they don’t stop fiddling with things. I finally got my Haste to a level it’s starting to feel fluid casting. This will hit me for a few percent.
