Culling Information in WoW
I consider myself a casual player. While I do log in every day, those days are also filled with my preferring a flight path over a portal because, while I’m in the game, I’m also reading blogs and data-mining sites. It can take an hour for fifteen minutes of play.
Leading into Legion, there were several Developer Q&A’s on Blizzard’s Twitch channel and I watched most of those. This guy named Lore will cherry-pick questions and loft them gently to a Dev to answer live. The questions come from Twitter with a specific hashtag and from their Forums.
It is never enough but the Devs have tried to be more generous with information on their forums in general. For the specialists, like programmers and artists, writing up information for the audience is not what they do best: and we gladly forgive them, enjoying any insight into our beloved game.
Ion Hazzikostas, the Game Director, has done most of these live presentations. His tag is WatcherDev. I believe that once he got his game director title that he tried to make his mark, which is why we now get “bring the class, not the player” attitude. This was a complete flip-flop on the prior game design.
It can be interesting to watch. There will be a new presentation tomorrow on August 3rd. The forum link to ask questions is here. Go ahead, ask a question.
As a viewer, I’m not sure why this presentation will be happening. My best guess is a sort of Victory Lap for Ion Hazzikostas. As of today, there are only six pages of questions instead of forty. The questions are not pounding the forums on the state of a specific class. They are more about the future (will we get another TW raid, will we get three legendary slots, etc).
Candidly, I have not looked at the Twitter questions #LegionQA.
It has been a year in Legion, so I expect an announcement of some kind. Most likely it will be the date we’ll see 7.3 drop.
I have questions all of the time. Why’d they nerf my druid healer? How can anyone, even a developer be happy with that.
Another question is on this hotfix:
Red War Fuel and Blue War Fuel visuals have been modified to reduce strobe effects.
Red War Fuel and Blue War Fuel have an increased cooldown time.
This has been a problem? Of ALL the stuff, they told us that they have pages and pages of bugs, this is the one to fix now?
So, I guess I’ll watch this Twitch thing over lunch tomorrow. One hour of show for ten seconds of information. MMO Champs and others will post a great “at a glance” over view — I recommend that but I like seeing WatcherDev act so smug sometimes.
