Battle Pet Leveling … Again

Battle Pet Leveling … Again

Legion has a fun but terrifically massive achievement called Family Familiar. The requires you to down World Quest Tamers with teams made of a single type (Aquatic, Critter, Dragon, etc.).

I’m having fun! I use Zu-Fu’s Pet Battle Strategies and you can see the the list of pets is pretty long with over 100 pets at 25 and all rare.

I’ve had to go collect a few pets for this Achievement.

My strategy for leveling pets is as follows:

  • Take a character that you want to level, pet battles give XP.
  • Go to the Valley of the Four Winds in Pandaria; between the Stoneplow Flight Point and the Singing Marshes.
  • Chain pet battles to level them and get XP for your character.
  • Rinse and repeat and repeat; I tend to watch football games.

The Grind Team.

  • Darkmoon Zep 1/1/2. Open with Bombing Run, then Decoy (to protect your leveling pet).
  • Leveling Pet. Insert after Decoy and then swap out again.
  • Chrominius 1/2/1. Central is the Ravage spell which heals on a kill, making your team non-stop for many pet battles. Use Bite and Ancient Blessing to set up the kills.
  • NB: you don’t have to do Bombing Run, it simply makes it more fun.

Positive Points

  • It is a safe zone. You could have a level 30 character safely playing, unmolested by angry mobs.
  • The teams you face are either Critter or Aquatic; making Chrominius excel.
  • Families of pets can be found, like Bandicoon. This can mean five pet battles in a row without even moving!
  • You are battling max level pets for the best xp for you and your leveling pet.

Field Notes:

  • I am currently doing this with a level 103 character and getting about 11k xp per pet battle, the max xp for a quest (at this level) in Legion is 15k; I could argue that chaining pet battles will level you up as fast as anything else in the game.
  • I felt that I did between 20 and 25 battles in an hour, though I wasn’t clocking it.
  • Naturally, the lower level of your pet; the higher the results will be; the move from 24 to 25 might be best to use a leveling stone.
  • It can be a grind but it is satisfying to level my character at the same time as leveling pets for Family Familiar.
  • If you battle in the Singing Marshes proper, the opening pet is Aquatic which can stun; so skip Bombing Run and simply Decoy.
  • I’ve written before on this, almost two years ago, and the strategy is still solid. You can find my original posting here.

Find a goal and go for it.

Pet Leveling Bonanza

Pet Leveling Bonanza

Today is: May 28, 2016. In the US, the pet tamer Squirt is in our Menagerie during the pet xp bonus week. Tomorrow it is for the EU. You can chain-level continuously to level up battle pets pretty fast. It is a bit addicting and satisfying.

Here is what I did:

I opened group finder and clicked Custom. I listed my group as Menagerie 3 – Realm Hop PvE. I clicked auto-invite and converted to raid. If I’m grinding in my garrison, I might as well be a service to the community.

  1. I put on my Safari Hat.
  2. I used Rematch to filter Rare and levels 1 – 7.
  3. I put the Enchanted Broom in slot one with Batter and Sweep
  4. I put my first level one pet in slot two and used the Pet Treat. The Pet Treat buff will carry over long past that first pet is gone.
  5. I put Weebination in slot three with Cleave.
  6. Begin the grind.
  1. Open with Sweep, swap to low level pet, swap to Weeb and spam Cleave until Weeb is dead. Use the Broom to Batter and finish.
  2. Visit the trainer to heal all pets.
  3. Go again.

It takes three battles, your level one will go to 15, 21 and then ding 25. Put in another pet and go again.

I merely went alphabetical, down the list. I ran for an hour, using the Pet Treat buff as a timer. Now I’m on a break, because I’d like to be sane. I’m going to the movies this afternoon but tonight is a NBA basketball game and perfect for a few hours of pet leveling grinds.

I began thinking about my level 62. I know I can fly in Draenor and that I can visit garrisons at that level. I began to wonder if I could get some xp on my lowbie by pet battling this tamer. Maybe tonight I will try it out.

Power Pet Leveling in our World of Warcraft

I decided to go for the Celestial Pet Tournament. I looked at the list on Wowhead of suggested pets needed at level 25 and realized I needed a strong strat for pet leveling.

It worked so well, I decided to share it with you.

Locale: Stoneplow Flight Path up hill to the Singing Marshes in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
Pets to Battle: All level 25 pets for max xp, critter and aquatic.
My toon: I took my level 30 mage in full heirloom gear and a Safari Hat. Note that I set my hearth in the Shrine but got my rested xp in the Inn at Stoneplow. I also leveled mining to break the monotony.
NB: Only go uphill from the Flight Path, to the west and to the east are baddies but they are far away; you will be safe.

Strategy: The main strategy is continuous pet battling, non-stop.

My Pet Line Up:
Slot One: Darkmoon Zep at 25 with Missile, Bombing Run and Decoy
Slot Two: Your pet to level, starting at level one
Slot Three: Chrominius at 25 with Bite, Ancient Blessing, Ravage

Open with Bombing Run and then Decoy. Swap to Pet-to-Level for one turn, Decoy will protect. Swap to Chominius and watch the bomb drop, Ravage to kill first mob and get a heal. Use Chrominius to kill the next three pets, using Blessing for a heal but pay attention to use Ravage as a finisher, which is a heal too.

Rinse and Repeat over and over.

I have bandages but rarely use them, every 8 minutes you get a free Revive Pet, mostly for the Zep who takes one hit per pet battle.
The XP you get for your toon, my mage, is about 80% of a full quest. At three battles per eight minutes; this comes to turning in about 20 quests per hour.

You make zero gold, this is purely for leveling pets with a bonus of leveling a toon.

I hope you take a trip out to Stoneplow with a lowbie toon. The pets are numerous and even little Bandicoon families so you don’t even have to move. You’ll get into the groove pretty quickly and, I feel, the best place and strategy for leveling up a lot of pets!
